According to Urban Dictionary, indie rock is different from pop music, which usually makes them not as popular. Indie rock artists usually write their own songs and make music all by themselves.

I think the lyrics of indie rock songs are usually better than normal popular songs, which is always about "partying", "touching the sky" or "I'm sorry" kind of stuff. Lyrics may be what I focus on studying. Maybe I can compare different kinds of lyrics and their popularity, then share my favorite ones. I don't know.
At least there is something to start with for the time being. Your task now is to select songs whose lyrics interest you. If I were you, I would enjoy this part of the process because isn't it a treat to listen to songs to your heart's content?
